Protecting your plants from pests: Soil gnats

Do you know about preventive biological pest control?

At Adopte une Plante we are not new to protection against pests!

You should know that several insects can be considered harmful to our plants because they alter their condition. While some may be beneficial.

The most important thing is to never panic and learn to identify them.

Sciaridaes

These are midges that lay their eggs in the substrate.

They often appear when the substrate is not sufficiently drained or too humid.

They are certainly very annoying but do not affect the roots or the condition of your plant. They are then without danger.

There are several options to eliminate them: nematode worms which eat Sciaridae larvae and which are harmless to your plants, yellow stickers attracting adult Sciaridae, and diatom powder to sprinkle on the soil which prevents them from adult to lay eggs in the substrate.

Good luck in your fight against these unbearable little midges!
